Why bother to blog on your own blog when other bloggers are doing such an excellent job of raising more significant issues on theirs?

Please take a moment to read up on these two important items in the news:

  • Gang Shik at the Transracial Korean Adoptee Nexus spotlights a despicable hate crime that targeted and victimized a Korean adoptee apparently based on his race. Like Gang Shik, I also failed to escape my college years unscathed by alcohol-fueled (and sober) racist diatribes, attacks and threats. The violence inflicted in this case, however, is nothing short of abhorrent.
  • Jae Ran of Harlow’s Monkey underscores the importance of an adoptee’s right to his or her personal and family history, even as instances of “abandoned children” (versus “relinquished”) mount in Vietnam, bringing to light myriad ethical and moral questions surrounding adoption of Vietnamese children.
